How to train while spiraling
Sept 16, 2025 | 12:30pm ET
(Yes, it will be recorded!)
Soooo…
Is anybody else struggling with feeling guilty because you aren’t training your dogs enough or well enough because you’re constantly overwhelmed/distracted by everything that’s going on in the world?
But also simultaneously feeling guilty when you do train because you really should be doing more about all the everything that’s constantly going on?
Maybe you set out to train, but end up scrolling, reorganizing your props and platforms, or just staring at your dog while your brain runs circles.
Maybe you can even get started, but your focus fizzles halfway through. Or maybe you don’t even make it that far, because everything feels like “just one more thing” on an already heavy list.
We know you care about your dog and you care about your training goals. But damn, the world is overwhelming right now… climate, politics, finances, family, work… it all stacks up. And even training, the thing that used to bring joy, can start to feel like another pressure. (Yes, I cried a little typing this.)
What if there’s a chance we aren’t broken? What if there are ways to keep training through the spiral? Because it’s true! There are things we can do!
Our goal with this workshop is to give you both tangible strategies and mindset shifts to help you keep training even when everything is overwhelming.
We will discuss topics such as:
- A framework to set up sessions when your brain feels fried
- Easy ideas for instant wins
- Practical ways to reduce overwhelm while you train
- Permission (and tools) to adjust your goals without guilt
- Using a values-based “lighthouse” to guide your training choices
Who are we?
Hannah Branigan and Emilie Johnson Vegh are longtime colleagues, dog trainers, and sport competitors who know firsthand what it feels like to love training… and also feel completely stuck. Together, we’ll lead a conversation about what spiraling is like and strategies to help, with plenty of real-world examples (and a dash of humor).
